Bristol Airport
BRSThe South West's busiest airport, connecting the region to over 100 destinations across Europe and beyond.
Bristol Airport (BRS) sits 8 miles south-west of Bristol city centre near the village of Lulsgate Bottom in North Somerset. It handles around 10 million passengers a year and is the primary airport for the South West of England, serving a catchment area that stretches from South Wales to Dorset. A single modern terminal serves all departures and arrivals. Unlike most major UK airports, Bristol has no direct rail link — the bus is the main public transport option from the city.
The Terminal
Bristol operates a single terminal that has been progressively expanded over the years. It is compact and straightforward to navigate, with check-in, security, and departures all on one level. The airport is particularly strong on leisure routes to European sun destinations.
Departures
Check-in desks and bag-drop are on the ground floor. Online check-in is available with most carriers and is strongly recommended to save time. Security and the airside departure lounge are on the upper level, with a good range of shops and food outlets once through.
Arrivals
Arrivals are on the ground floor. Baggage reclaim is compact and well signposted. Car hire desks, taxi ranks, and the bus stops for Bristol city centre are all within a short walk of the arrivals exit.

Getting to Bristol Airport
Bristol Airport has no direct rail link, so the bus or car are the main options. The Bristol Flyer coach service is the most convenient public transport connection from the city.
Bristol Flyer (Airport Bus)
The dedicated Bristol Flyer coach service runs between Bristol Airport and Bristol city centre (Bristol Bus & Coach Station and Bristol Temple Meads railway station) around the clock. Journey time is approximately 30–40 minutes depending on traffic. Runs every 15–30 minutes during the day. Tickets can be bought online in advance or on the bus.

Driving & Drop-off
Bristol Airport is accessed via the A38 from Bristol city centre or the A370 from the M5 (Junction 21). The approach road can be congested during peak morning departures. A short-stay drop-off zone is available at the terminal — charges apply after a brief free window. A free set-down area is available on the approach road for those who only need a minute or two.

Parking at Bristol Airport
Bristol offers several parking options from terminal-adjacent short stay to budget long-stay parks. Pre-booking is strongly recommended — prices increase significantly closer to your travel date.
Short Stay
Located directly in front of the terminal — ideal for quick drop-offs and pick-ups. The most expensive option per day but the most convenient. A free grace period applies for very short stays.
Long Stay
A short shuttle bus ride from the terminal. Considerably cheaper than short stay for trips of more than a day. Pre-book well in advance online for the best rates — last-minute prices can be two to three times higher.
Meet & Greet
Drive to the terminal, hand your keys to a valet, and collect your car on return. The most convenient option for families or passengers with a lot of luggage. Book early as capacity is limited.
Facilities & Lounges
Bristol's terminal is compact but well equipped, with a solid range of airside dining, retail, and passenger services.
Airport Lounges
The Aspire Lounge is located airside and is open to any passenger regardless of airline or travel class. Access can be purchased online in advance at a lower rate than on the day. Priority Pass and Lounge Key are accepted. The lounge offers complimentary food, drinks, Wi-Fi, and a quieter environment away from the main departure hall.
Dining & Bars
Airside dining includes Wetherspoons, Pret a Manger, Costa, and a selection of grab-and-go outlets. The range is more limited than at larger airports but covers the essentials well. Landside options are minimal, so it is worth eating once you are through security.
Shopping
World Duty Free is the main retail anchor airside, alongside Boots, WHSmith, and a small selection of fashion and accessories stores. The retail offer is proportionate to the airport's size — compact but functional.
Families & Accessibility
A dedicated family security lane is available. Baby changing facilities and a small children's play area are located airside. Passengers requiring mobility assistance should pre-notify their airline — the airport's assistance team can be contacted in advance to arrange meet-and-assist.
Tips for Travelling Through Bristol
The Bristol Flyer is the most reliable way to reach the airport without a car. Book your ticket online in advance to save a little money and to guarantee a seat during busy periods. The service runs 24 hours, which is useful for early morning or late night flights.
Bristol Airport has no direct rail link — do not plan to arrive by train without factoring in the bus connection from Bristol Temple Meads. Allow at least 60 minutes from Temple Meads to the terminal to be safe, including the bus journey and check-in time.
Security queues at Bristol can be long during peak morning departures (4am–8am), particularly in summer. Arrive at least two hours before a short-haul flight. The airport publishes live security wait times on its website — worth checking the evening before.
Pre-book parking as early as possible. Bristol's parking prices rise steeply in the weeks before travel — booking a month in advance can save 40–50% compared to walk-up rates. Book directly through the official Bristol Airport website.
The Aspire Lounge is worth considering for early morning departures when the main departure hall is crowded and noisy. Book online at least 24 hours before departure for the best price — walk-in rates are noticeably higher.
