Glasgow Airport

GLA

Scotland's second-busiest airport, serving a wide range of European, transatlantic, and domestic routes from a single modern terminal.

Glasgow Airport (GLA) is Scotland's second-busiest airport, handling around 9 million passengers a year. It is located 8 miles west of Glasgow city centre near Paisley in Renfrewshire. A single terminal serves all departures and arrivals. Unlike Edinburgh, Glasgow Airport has no direct rail link — the bus is the main public transport connection from the city. The airport serves a broad range of European leisure routes as well as transatlantic services to North America.

The Terminal

Glasgow operates a single terminal that is compact and easy to navigate. Check-in, security, and departures are all clearly signposted. The airside area has a good range of shops and restaurants for a regional airport.

Departures

Check-in desks and bag-drop are on the ground floor. Online check-in is available with most carriers. Security and the airside departure lounge are on the upper level.

Arrivals

Arrivals are on the ground floor. Baggage reclaim is well signposted. The bus stops, taxi rank, and car hire desks are all within a short walk of the arrivals exit.

Tips for Travelling Through Glasgow

The Glasgow Flyer bus is the most convenient public transport option. It runs directly from Buchanan Bus Station in the city centre and is frequent enough that you rarely need to book in advance.

Glasgow Airport has no direct rail link. The nearest railway station is Paisley Canal, which requires a bus connection to the terminal. Do not plan to arrive by train without factoring in this extra step.

Security queues at Glasgow can be long during peak summer departures. Allow at least two hours for short-haul flights. The airport publishes live security wait times on its website.

Pre-book parking as far in advance as possible. Glasgow's parking prices rise steeply close to travel dates. Book through the official Glasgow Airport website for the best rates.
